Vs. Dr. Mario (Arcade) Playthrough

A playthrough of Nintendo's 1990 arcade puzzle game, Vs. Dr. Mario. Played through on the high speed setting. Like they had done on previous occasions, Nintendo led Dr. Mario's NES release (   • Dr. Mario (NES) Playthrough  ) by a couple of months with an arcade-exclusive "preview" of the game running on the popular Vs. System platform. They're essentially the same game, but after playing them back-to-back, a few differences stood out to me: - The point values for combos are different. On the NES, each step in a combo nets twice the points the previous step awarded, similar to how points build when you hop on multiple enemies without touching the ground in Super Mario Bros. In Vs. Dr. Mario, the score only increases by 200 with each hit. - There is no slow speed setting in Vs. Dr. Mario, and there is no option to play without music. - Vs. Dr. Mario uses brighter colors than the NES version, and Mario's skin is neon yellow. - A small credit counter has been added beneath the bottom-right corner of the clipboard. - The Vs. version lacks a pause function, and once a round ends, the game automatically moves to the next stage without waiting for confirmation. There are also no cutscenes for completing rounds 5, 10, and 15, but like the NES version, it does show an ending cutscene following round 20. - In attract mode, the Vs. version shows a "Top 10 Players" scoreboard before cutting to demo play, and a song that's not in the NES version plays as you enter your initials for a high score. So yeah, the differences aren't dramatic, but given my familiarity with the NES game, I found it neat to see what had been tweaked in the time between their releases. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
