I'd like to dedicate this video to my parents. My parents never forced me into medicine, but they supported me 100% of the way on the journey. They worked long nights, sacrificed their own personal enjoyment, and looked out for us so that my three brothers and I could have opportunities that they never did. When it came to education, there was never a book, a course, or a resource that my parents wouldn't try to get for me so that I could succeed. The only time I ever saw my dad cry was when we visited my grandpas grave in China. He started out the day completely normal, stubborn, and anxious as always. But when we got to the grave, he thanked my grandpa for how he always supported his education and broke down crying. At the time I was ten, and me and my brothers thought it was funny and started laughing, thinking about how we hated that our dad forced us to do those extra math workbooks. As I look back on my own educational journey, there the struggles I had to overcome were different than those of my parents and albeit probably easier because I knew they would always be there to support me. I cannot help but understand what my dad felt that day, looking at his own life and reflecting on how he got there. As we get older, we come to appreciate more and more what our parents have sacrificed for us. In the end, I could've never asked for more imperfectly perfect parents. I wish everyone good luck. I'm sure that medical school will be very, very difficult, but I know that without my parents, I would've never made it this far in the first place.
