妙高高原（みょうこうこうげん）は、新潟県南西部に位置し、「日本百名山」の一つとして知られる妙高山のすそ野一帯に広がる高原で、多様な景勝地や温泉が点在しています。妙高山（みょうこうさん）は、標高2,454mの成層火山で、「北信五岳」の一つであり、上信越高原国立公園に属しています。弥彦山と並び新潟県を代表する山であり、「越後富士」とも呼ばれます。 苗名滝（なえなたき）は、妙高高原にある落差55ｍの滝で、「日本の滝百選」に選定されています。長野県との県境付近を流れる関川にかかる滝で、柱状節理の玄武岩壁から水しぶきを上げて落ち込むさまは迫力満点で、条件が良ければ虹も見られます。 特に紅葉時期には断崖の上にある木々や周辺の森が一斉に色づき、素晴らしい紅葉風景が見られます。 惣滝（そうたき）は、妙高高原にある落差80ｍの滝で、「日本の滝百選」に選定されています。妙高山から流れ出る大田切川の源流部・大倉谷に位置しており、周囲は「つばめ溶岩」と呼ばれる輝石安山岩が切り立っています。 燕温泉の温泉街から妙高山への登山道をしばらく進んだところに展望台があり、その展望台付近からは、妙高山もよく望めます。 いもり池は、水面に標高2,454mの妙高山がくっきりと映る「逆さ妙高」が見られることで有名です。まさに妙高高原の玄関口に位置するといってよく、妙高高原ビジターセンターも隣接しています。秋の紅葉名所としても知られており、周辺は「森林セラピー基地」にも選定されています。 妙高高原は、豊かな自然に恵まれた紅葉名所です。 ※ この動画は今年（2021年）の紅葉の様子ではありません。最新の紅葉情報は、各地の観光協会やWebサイトでご確認ください。 ＜動画の内容とタイム・インデックス＞ 00:00 妙高高原の概要 00:59 苗名滝 03:32 惣滝と燕温泉 05:59 いもり池と妙高山 08:03 野尻湖の展望 Myoko Kogen is located in the southwestern part of Niigata Prefecture, and is a plateau that spreads out around the outskirts of Mt. Myoko, which is known as one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains, and is dotted with various scenic spots and hot springs. Mt. Myoko is a stratovolcano with an elevation of 2,454 meters, one of the five peaks of the Hokushin Mountain Range, and is part of the Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. Along with Mt. Yahiko, it is one of the representative mountains of Niigata Prefecture and is also called "Echigo Fuji". Naena Waterfall is a 55-meter high waterfall located on the Myoko Plateau and has been selected as one of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan. The waterfall spills over the Seki River, which flows near the border with Nagano Prefecture, and is a powerful sight as it plunges down from the basalt walls with columnar joints, splashing into the water. Especially during the autumn leaves season, the trees on the cliff and the surrounding forest all change color at the same time, creating a wonderful view of autumn leaves. Sotaki is a waterfall with a drop of 80 meters located on the Myoko Plateau, and has been selected as one of the top 100 waterfalls in Japan. It is located in the Okura Valley at the headwaters of the Ohtagiri River flowing from Mt. Myoko, and is surrounded by pyroxene andesite called "Tsubame Lava". The observatory is located a short distance from the Tsubame Onsen hot spring resort on the trail to Mt. Myoko, and from near the observatory you can get a good view of Mt. Myoko. Imori Pond is famous for its "upside-down Myoko," a clear reflection of 2,454-meter-high Mt. Myoko in the water. Imori Pond is located at the entrance to Myoko Kogen and is adjacent to the Myoko Kogen Visitor Center. The area is also known for its autumn leaves and has been selected as a "forest therapy base".
