May 12th 2001 Marilyn Manson struck back at his critics during a speech at the new music west 2001 festival in Vancouver, Canada on May 11th. In front of an audience of over 1,000 fans and conference delegates at the commodore ballroom, Manson delivered a brief speech dealing with numerous subjects including the media's coverage of the Columbine massacre and the singer's subsequent role as media scapegoat for the tragedy. Said Manson: "it was amazing and disgusting to me that they put faces of the two shooters on the cover of 'time' magazine, rather than the victims. America really loves to glorify murderers and put them on the same status as celebrities."
