Jeeping on the TREAD LIGHTLY trail in Ocala - The Southern half.

"Ocala tread lightly south end trail ride. We are just doing the south end and will start at the Altoona Circle K at 9am Saturday. Not an official ride just some riding in Ocala. Not too scatchy... " That was the text I sent out to a few friends. Well that was a matter of opinion. It was scratch, not like the June ride, not like the unmaintained ride on the North end. But still a bit more scratchy then I like. Yes most of it buffed out. So let’s talk about the South half. It is around 40 miles and travels from Hwy 40 south along the Western side of the Forest. Eventually making its way to the South East corner around Baptist Lake. Then finishing off with a diagonal ride back up to the midway point. This is by far one of the easiest BOH trails out there. 1-3 on a scale of 10. Mostly a scenic ride through Ocala. The only problem could be repeated areas of sugar sand. If you’re traveling with a friend there should be no issues. There are some seasonal areas that provide a little more changes in elevation. Things to know: Bring food and water. Have recovery gear suited for sand recovery. Have a good GPS map. Start early. Bug spray is a must. Stay out of the clay pits. What would make this trail even better? Locations along the way that have interesting sites or history. The area has multiple springs that would make a perfect spot to see the gorgeous clear waters of Florida springs. Stops with restrooms and break areas. There are campsites and parking corrals throughout the forest. some off camber areas that put a little more excitement to the ride.
