These three tips are easy to implement and cost-effective, making them ideal for any yacht buyer or owner. Buying a yacht can be quite costly which doesn't often come as a surprise, but these 3 practically free tips can help any yacht purchaser or owner to simplify their lives while keeping some money in their pockets. Tip #1: Set Up A Dedicated Email Address I can't tell you how common it is when buying a yacht that you'll ask for the service records, or some form of paperwork prior to making your offer, and the seller can't find the record or takes a long time to get it to you. By setting up a separate and dedicated email specifically for your boat (example: [email protected]), you won't commingle emails with your work correspondence, personal bills, etc. If done through Gmail or Yahoo or similar platforms, this can be done within 2 minutes and will help save you time and money while reducing potential friction at the time of the sale. Tip #2: Set up a website for your yacht. This low-cost, rather simple strategy serves a few purposes. Direct Sale - If someone in your marina or someone that is walking the docks looking to buy a certain yacht, happens to see yours, the first thing they're going to do is type in the name of the yacht painted on the transom. If you have a website, even if your boat isn't listed for sale, this increases the likelihood that the buyer will contact you and make an offer that presents the option of not having to pay a listing broker a 10% commission. Charter - If you're making your yacht available for charter, a similar concept applies; maybe someone sees how much fun your guests are having out on the water and plans to charter your boat and will reach out to do so without requiring a booking through a charter company that will charge you a 20% commission. Sense of Pride - Owning a yacht is fun, plain, and simple but it's also a great sense of pride. By giving admirers an outlet to further admire your vessel, you'll feel good when you get an email along the lines of 'your boat is beautiful' and so on. Tip #3: Get a Lockbox -- Marinas and yachting, in general, is very trusting in the sense that you let many people onboard your yacht to service it, so it's convenient to leave a key to access the yacht tucked inside of the wet bar, sitting there exposed. While this is okay 99% of the time, why not eliminate the 1% risk of someone causing damage; by getting a lockbox, only those with the code can access your yacht. Newer lockboxes with Bluetooth capability, that cost only $99, also allow you to track who accesses the boat with their own unique code and when they access the boat. That way, if your kid forgot to put back the keys or the marine electrician charges you for 8 hours of work but was only onboard for an hour or so, you can effectively audit them. So, 3 really low-cost, almost free ideas for you when buying any yacht. If I can help you out in your search for your yacht, please feel free to reach out via my website.
