Project 05 : Eternity and Ephemera [Full version 2K] H Lee, 2024

“Eternity and Ephemera” is a media art piece inspired by the late Nam June Paik's work "TV Buddha." This piece seeks to reinterpret the relationship between eternity and the ephemeral through a new visual language. It uses a constantly evolving black hole at the center to represent the permanence of time and the fleeting moments that compose it. The black and white rings encircling the black hole generate it and rotate around it, altering its shape. These rings draw the viewer’s gaze to the center, prompting deep reflection on human thought and cognition. The ever-changing black hole at the center symbolizes the permanence of time. In contrast, the rings surrounding it represent the moments that constitute this permanence. The transformation and movement of the rings visually depict the dynamism and change within time, illustrating the relationship between the eternal and the ephemeral. “Eternity and Ephemera” also reminds us that human consciousness is formed within this flow of time. Human awareness is constructed from countless moments within the realm of eternity. This piece encourages viewers to contemplate the essence of time and consider how our lives, as a collection of fleeting moments, contribute to the formation of eternity. The image of the black hole and the dynamic rings in the artwork provide a visually immersive experience, allowing viewers to witness and perceive the flow and transformation of time. Much like the powerful gravity of a black hole, it draws the viewer’s attention, enabling them to experience and recognize time within it.
