The area around Milton Lilbourne has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements found nearby. The name "Milton" suggests an Anglo-Saxon origin. Lilbourne comes from the Lilburn family who held land in the area during the Middle Ages. Mention of Milton Lilbourne can be found in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as "Mildentone." At that time, it was held by the Bishop of Salisbury. The village boasts several historic buildings, including St. Peter's Church, which dates back to the 12th century.
