Gabe | GabeSellsATX| g0choa Kyra's Background and Introduction to Jiu-Jitsu - Kyra was born and raised in Singapore, living there for 16 years before moving to the US and Texas 3 years ago. - Kyra is currently studying at the University of Texas and is the vice president of the university's Jiu-Jitsu club. - Kyra has been practicing Jiu-Jitsu for 6 years, starting at the age of 14 as a way to help with her depression. Kyra's Journey with Jiu-Jitsu - Kyra initially had no interest in Jiu-Jitsu, preferring Muay Thai, but after trying a Jiu-Jitsu class she fell in love with the endless possibilities of techniques and combinations. - Jiu-Jitsu has helped Kyra develop a sense of confidence and security, especially in relation to past traumatic experiences with her father and a bullying incident in school. - Kyra has noticed a shift in her mindset, going from feeling helpless to having the ability to defend herself, which has provided her with a newfound sense of security. Kyra's Perspective as a Female in Jiu-Jitsu - As a female in a male-dominated sport, Kyra has faced challenges, but has learned to overcome them through persistence and developing technical skills. - Kyra hopes to promote and build the female community within the UT Jiu-Jitsu club, organizing events and classes specifically for women. - Kyra believes the Jiu-Jitsu community is generally welcoming and supportive, with a focus on developing skills over ego. Kyra's Vision for the UT Jiu-Jitsu Club - Kyra's main goal as vice president is to increase the club's presence and participation, particularly among female students. - She hopes to organize more frequent training sessions and events to help the club members develop their skills and build a stronger community. - Kyra emphasizes the valuable life lessons and personal growth that Jiu-Jitsu can provide, beyond just the physical aspects of the sport.
