Jazz & Heritage Concert Series: The International Accordion Kings

The accordion, a well known instrument in south Louisiana, is an important part of many forms of traditional music throughout the world. FULL DESCRIPTION The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and Steve Riley Productions present International Accordion Kings on Saturday, April 20, 2024, a live concert featuring Steve Riley, Josh Baca, Alex Meixner Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes, Cedric Watson, and Glenn Hartman, at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart Street). About International Accordion Kings: The accordion, a well known instrument in south Louisiana, is an important part of many forms of traditional music throughout the world including Cajun & Creole, French Canadian, Jazz, Eastern European, Conjunto, Polka & more. Cajun accordionist virtuoso Steve Riley presents a musical journey through many different accordion styles and cultures featuring some of today’s top accordionists in the world. International Accordion Kings features duo performances, interviews, and intriguing stories that will transport each listener on a musical odyssey to the many parts of the world where the accordion has become a musical mainstay! Steve Riley, of Mamou Louisiana, is a widely acknowledged master of the Cajun accordion and its singularly powerful sound. Despite the lack of official metrics or quantifying factors, it remains true that most people think Steve is the best there is, and very few would argue the point. His playing is a standard by which timing, phrasing and ingenuity are measured on the royal instrument of South Louisiana. About the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation This event is a program of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit that owns the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell. The foundation uses the proceeds from Jazz Fest, and other raised funds, for year-round programs in education, economic development and cultural enrichment.
