The Holy Gospel according to Saint John R: Glory to You Oh LORD “As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Now remain in My love. If you keep My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are My friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you. This is My command: Love one another (John 15:9-17). The Holy Gospel of the LORD R: Praise to You, LORD Jesus Christ Reflection: Like the union between the vine and the fruit producing more fruit, in today’s Gospel Jesus emphasises we become eternally fruitful by remaining in Him through obedience. Jesus’ intense love in laying down His life for His chosen is not by chance but stems from the love between the Father and the Son. Jesus loved us first and if we remain in Him we share in the immeasurable love between them. Remaining in Christ is to be in constant union with Him and His teachings. To have His word remain in us is to know His Gospel and speak His truth, which guides our daily actions and behaviour. As Christ showed His love for us, we prove our love for Him by obeying His law. Through our obedience, we also set an example for those around us, showing love for each other, just as Jesus commanded. Amen.
