Étienne Nicolas Méhul - Sonate en ré majeur, op.2 n°1

Étienne Nicolas Méhul (1763-1817) Trois Sonates pour le Clavecin ou le Forte-Piano (avec Accompagnement d'un Violon ad Libitum), Op. 2 (1788) : Sonate n°1 en ré majeur : 0:00 I. Allegro 8:39 II. Andante 15:05 III. Allegretto Moderato (Rondo) Étienne Nicolas Méhul, born in 1763 in Givet (France) and dead in 1817 in Paris, was one of the most important composers of French operas during the French Revolution period and one of the first French composers to be called "Romantic". He was also an important innovator in the domain of symphony in France. The piano sonatas op. 1 and 2 were the first compositions Méhul published after he arrived in Paris in 1779. The sonatas op. 2 were published in 1788 with a accompaniment of violin ad libitum. They show more maturity and are more elaborated than the sonatas of the opus 1. Through these two publications, Méhul established himself as one of the best composers of the French school of piano of his time.
