Back in 2008 I put up a picture tutorial for making a Biscornu on an old blog (I'll link it below) and thought it was about time I worked up a video tutorial for the channel. I've been really into my cross stitch since the UK went into Lockdown in 2020, you may have noticed, and was itching to make another. If you've been stitching for a while then you may have seen the word Biscornu before, or even seen them made up on various Social media platforms. It is a french word and according to Google, is an adjective meaning; skewed, misshapen, quirky, irregular and bizarre. I know it as an octagonal stuffed ornamental pincushion. They are generally created by offsetting two squares of stitching and pulling the center in tight, however there are also patterns for 15 sided Biscornus for the more adventurous stitcher. The pattern I have used is 'Mini Snowflakes' from @TheUrbanStitches on Instagram and can be found on Etsy here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/85130... I've used Red Zweigart 14Ct Aida and Blanc DMC thread. Materials needed: 2 squares of stitching Needle and thread Toy stuffing 2 buttons/beads Scissors Optional extras: Wire wool, Seed beads As mentioned in the video, these work a little smoother when the squares are of an even amount of stitches as it's one less stitch to complete.
