This is the first of two sole trammel net sets to be hauled this day, along with one large mesh gill net. The net is already passing through the hauler when the video starts, the total surface track logged was 300m. Catch: 47 plaice, 8 sole, 2 turbot. 107 brown crab, 35 spider crab. Also lesser spotted dogfish, smooth hound, red gurnard. Discards 2 hermit crab, 18 starfish. The fishing vessel is FH214 Lady Hamilton, skippered by Chris Bean, fishing out of the Helford, fishing in Falmouth Bay. ICES area VIIe. The video is gathered, among other reasons, as part of the Fishface pilot, which is looking at the practicality of routine video recording catches and fishing activity on small commercial vessels. This is for better knowledge of stock distributions and abundance, and allowing fishers to better analyse their own catch data. The camera being tested here is the Garmin VIRB elite. The video is used to documenting catch rates, bycatch, discards (or rather lack of them), deterioration of fishing gear performance with time etc. That requirers the video to be uncut, so may be tedious!
