May 3, 1992 - The writing was on the wall. The New York Knicks were younger, hungrier, meaner. The Pistons were old, tired, disjointed. Still, as Madison Square Garden attempted to single-handily will the Knicks to victory in Game 5 of their first round series against Detroit, Isiah Thomas made one last stand. Thomas scored 21 points in the fourth quarter—including his team's final 19—but it wasn't enough. As he rained in the final 3-pointer of an illustrious playoff career, the Garden's collective euphoria was already five minutes deep. The Knicks' 94-87 victory set up the first entry of their own multi-year postseason rivalry with the Chicago Bulls. Finishing with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists in the loss, Thomas' final clutch performance came in vain, though it provided one final reminder as to what made him such a special player in the first place.
