He covered everything from rapier to grappling to flag bearing to musket work to vaulting, and more. This series will go over Pascha's jägerstock (jaegerstock), a two-headed spear, also called bâton à deux bouts, half-pike, hunting stick, or springing-stick. In his intro, Pascha claims this staff is primarily a French weapon (bâton à deux bouts) and that one can "defend against 10, 20 and 30 men with bare swords" for more than 15 minutes (but only "out of necessity"). A bold claim, for sure. Nonetheless, the actions presented in his book are clearly made for the melee field against multiple opponents and not a private duel. Think of it akin to a spadone or montante but in spear form. 🔱More on the Jägerstock and the Bâton à deux bouts🔱 RESEARCH: The French staff material from Johann Georg Pasch by Olivier Dupuis https://bop.unibe.ch/apd/article/view... His life-long love of athletics and swashbuckling has led him down the road to studying and practicing historical fencing. He’s the founder of ‪@bostonacademiedarmes‬ a historical fencing school for HEMA & SCA fencers, with a focus on French and Italian rapier, Italian smallsword, and Italian dueling saber. He puts an emphasis on good body mechanics and helping his fencers to improve their physical fitness, athletic ability, and fencing skill while operating within their current physical limitations. As a competitor, Justin has won numerous rapier tournaments in the SCA -- both in singles and in group melee -- including Carolingia's Baronial Champion, East Kingdom Crown Champion, and named 8x to the Pennsic Champs team. He is 15th member of the East Kingdom’s Order of Defense, holds a Silver Broach and Maunche for his historical martial arts research, and a Silver Wheel and Silver Crescent for his coaching. Outside of the SCA and the Academie, Justin teaches rapier at Athena School of Arms, has taught workshops at events such as Lord Baltimore's Challenge and Iron Gate Exhibition (IGX), and is a certified personal trainer through NASM.
