Arts for Learning third space projects, Spring 2024

An overview of third space projects at four Indianapolis Public Schools made possible with funding from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) federal grant. Through third space, students are exposed to museum-quality artwork, and have input into its creation by a local professional artist. First space is what a student learns at home. Second space is what students learn from books and at school. Third space is what students see, think, and wonder about when interacting with an artwork. The curriculum is based on thinking routines developed by Harvard University's Project Zero. We use “see, think, and wonder” to develop a student’s skills in observation and creative and critical thinking. We also work with teachers to develop their skills in using this process to engage students on any subject matter. These projects were completed throughout the spring semester of 2024.
