Pulmonary Pearls Educational Series: Spirometry

Enduring Activity: Pulmonary Pearls Educational Series: Spirometry Target Audience This activity is targeted towards primary care providers (internists, hospitalists, IM/P, and family practitioners). Statement of Need In current state, primary care providers do not provide pulmonary function testing. In addition, there are identified opportunities related to diagnosis and management. The professional gap exists related to variation in clinical practice in terms of the treatment plan and follow-up for patients with respiratory diagnoses. Providing education opportunities in targeted areas as well as adult specialty areas should improve a physician’s knowledge base and patient outcomes. Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:  Discuss the Standard NMG Obstructive Lung Disease Diagnosis Algorithm to distinguish appropriate approach to treatment.  Diagnose and interpret spirometry in office.  Recognize when Alpha-1 Antitrypsin testing is appropriate.  Identify additional treatment methods which can be applied based on patient diagnosis.
