Walking in Alcoy, April 2022, (Las fiestas de Moros y Cristianos)

Alcoy (or Alcoi in Valencian) is a charming town in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is an industrial and university city with a population of around 61,000, established in 1256 by James I of Aragon, with the construction of a castle overlooking the Serpis river. Later Alcoy played a significant role in the industrial revolution when many factories were formed along the river Serpis and the population increased. They produce textile, paper, food, and metal. A railway to Gandia was built to transport the goods from the factories. Nowadays the train track is in use as a popular tracking path named 'Vía verde' with stunning views of the mountains. It is long around 40 km. The town is surrounded by two national parks Font Roja Natural Park and Serra Mariola Natural Park. Alcoy has a lovely historical downtown area with beautiful architecture and several museums. A few bridges connect various areas of the town, you can see them in this video.
