Volvo P1800ES at Classic & Sportscar Centre

Our 1973 Volvo P1800ES was first registered on the 1st August 1973 and is a rare RHD UK supplied example that left the factory finished in Sea Green with Tan leather upholstery and automatic transmission. When we sold the Volvo in early 2019 it was the first Volvo P1800 Estate we had owned in over fifteen years. Little over 8000 P1800 Estates were produced and roughly a quarter of these were made for the UK market. According to club sources, around 1000 original UK cars have survived making this a rare find. The Volvo has come back to us in part exchange having been on the Norfolk coast at its London based owners holiday home, used for taking the family down to the beach in the holiday season. This particular example had just one owner from 1987 to 2016 and still retains its original registration mark. The car comes with a significant amount of history with photographs of restoration work and over £12,000 worth of receipts up to 2019. In recent years the Volvo has been treated to a full re-paint and back in 2003 had a major body restoration carried out by Classic Restorations Ltd in Alyth, Scotland. This included fitting brand new front wings and the cutting out of corrosion and fabricating new metal work. The car was clearly very original at this stage although it required a major body rebuild. More recently in 2015 the P1800 has been treated to new front and rear brake calipers, new brake hoses, handbrake cable, handbrake shoes, new servo, master cylinder and link rod kit. The Volvo was also serviced by Strathmore, a Volvo main dealer. In early 2019 the last owner spent over £6000 on a re-trim to include new headlining, door cards and re-trimmed leather seats, front and rear. The Volvo also had over £2000 of mechanical and maintenance preparation taking expenditure in the history file to over £20,000. The Volvo was treated to new headlamps, new thermostat, washer pump and washer jets, new fuel tank sender, new manifold gasket, front and rear brake pads and a full service. The Volvo P1800 ES is a remarkably usable, practical classic that offers reliability and real confidence. The fuel injected engine runs superbly and the Borg Warner three speed automatic transmission suits the cars character and likely use. It is relaxed, comfortable and was built for endurance long distance motoring and so it should not disappoint. SPK 480M is an excellent driver and presents superbly with an excellent body, stunning Sea Green paintwork, and a fantastic high quality, re-trimmed interior.
