A look at the SONY CDP S37

This CD Player, made in Japan in 1989 is similar to the CDP-S207. Although, According to radiomuseum.org, "the Sony CDP-S207 Compact Disc Player [...] has no headphones socket." It weighs 1.880kg for 225 x 65 x 230 mm or 8.9 x 2.6 x 9.1 inches in size. The player can run on 110-120 or 220-240V. It appears that it was available for sale for $370 at the time, so about $800 in 2020. I was able to purchase this very unit for EUR 37 shipped from a local website. Another model, the CDP-S39 was available for sale, it included a IR remote sensor. The DAC chip is the CXD1161. I was able to find online that this chip was made by SONY but SANYO also supplied chips. In my unit, the chip is branded SONY. Here is an inside look at the CDP-M55, which features the same exact chip: http://blog.i-w-i.net/2017/05/sony-cd... Other players came with this chip and some players came with the CXD1161M. Does M stands for "mobile"? As the "1-bit DAC" CSD1161M chip was included in portable players such as the Discman D90 (D9 in the USA) http://www.sonyvintage.com/?p=1464 Frequency response 5 Hz - 20 kHz (+0.5dB,-2.0dB) Signal to noise ratio More than 95 dB Dynamic range More than 90 dB Harmonic distortion Less than 0.05% (at 1 kHz) Channel separation More than 90 dB Outputs Line Out (Fixed) (phono jacks) Output level 2 V (at 50 kΩ) Load impedance over 10 kΩ Headphones (stereo phone jack) Output level max. 11 mW Load impedance 32 Ω According to, radiomuseum.org Compact Disc Player CDP-S37 R-Player Sony Corporation; https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sony_cd...
