Wilco, Impossible Germany — epic Nels Cline guitar solo, live in Oakland, October 18, 2021 (HD)

Wilco play their song "Impossible Germany" live in concert at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California on October 18, 2021, with Nels Cline playing an epic guitar solo lasting several minutes. Impossible Germany appeared on the band's sixth studio album, Sky Blue Sky (2007). The song is a favorite of fans and music critics alike. Spin wrote: "The song’s smooth, caressing opening section sets the stage perfectly for Nels Cline’s melancholy yet joyous guitar solo, which rises with the rest of the band until their interplay reaches a heavenly zenith." And Rolling Stone said: "Have Wilco ever come up with a better song than 'Impossible Germany?' For the first three minutes, it’s a mysterious soft-rock ballad with jazzy chords filtered through stoner-country guitar licks, like some lost outtake from Steely Dan’s Katy Lied. Jeff Tweedy mumbles about isolation in his most beaten-up-by-life voice. Then, in the final three minutes, it builds into a twin-guitar epic, with Tweedy in the left speaker reinventing Fleetwood Mac circa Bare Trees, and Nels Cline in the right speaker reinventing Television circa Adventure. . . . It’s peaceful on the surface, demented underneath. . . . Even if mellowed-out guitar jammery isn’t your cup of tea, respect is due — this is the kind of song nobody ever gets right." Wilco is an alternative rock band from Chicago consisting of Jeff Tweedy (lead vocals and guitar), Nels Cline (guitar), John Stirratt (bass), Glenn Kotche (drums), Mikael Jorgensen (keyboards), and Pat Sansone (guitar and keyboards). Wilco recently wrapped up their It's Time tour, but their most recent dates are the conclusion of the Ode To Joy tour, the last few dates of which were postponed because of the pandemic in March 2020. =========================== Wilco - Ode To Joy live tour dates (2021): 10/5 - Portland, OR @ Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall 10/6 - Portland, OR @ Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall 10/8 - Eugene, OR @ McDonald Theatre 10/9 - Olympia, WA @ Washington Center for the Performing Arts 10/10 - Bellingham, WA @ Mount Baker Theatre 10/12 - Seattle, WA @ Paramount Theatre 10/13 - Seattle, WA @ Paramount Theatre 10/15 - Napa, CA @ Oxbow RiverStage 10/16 - San Jose, CA @ San Jose Civic 10/17 - Oakland, CA @ Fox Theater 10/18 - Oakland, CA @ Fox Theater 10/20 - Santa Barbara CA @ Santa Barbara Bowl 10/22 - Las Vegas, NV @ Brooklyn Bowl 10/23 - Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood Palladium 10/25 - Los Angeles, CA @ Orpheum Theatre 10/26 - Los Angeles, CA @ Orpheum Theatre =========================== Impossible Germany lyrics: Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan Wherever you go Wherever you land I'll say what this means to me I'll do what I can Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan Fundamental problem All need to face This is important But I know you're not listening No, I know you're not listening This was still new to me I wouldn't understand Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan This is what love is for To be out of place Gorgeous and alone Face to face With no larger problems That need to be erased Nothing more important Than to know someone's listening Now, I know you'll be listening Written by Jeff Tweedy / Glenn Kotche / John Stirratt / Mikael Jorgensen / Nels Cline / Pat Sansone =========================== Wilco official bio: Throughout the past two-plus decades Wilco has won multiple Grammy Awards, released 11 studio albums, as well as a trio of albums with Billy Bragg penning music to lyrics by Woody Guthrie. They have founded their own record label (dBpm Records) and festival (Solid Sound). This year saw them curating Sky Blue Sky, a destination concert experience in Mexico, for the first time. The Chicago sextet continues to be regarded as a live powerhouse, as described by NPR “To see Wilco on stage is to hear the best of the best.” The band’s newest album, Ode To Joy, was released fall 2019. Wilco return with Ode to Joy, out October 4th via dBpm Records. Ode to Joy comes three-plus years after the release of the “world-weary, wheezy – and wonderfully warm” (The Guardian) Schmilco, and encourages the act of finding joy in a dark political climate. The album presents a unique rhythm track and a minimalist instrumentation, with lyrics at once observant, hopeful, morbid, tolerant, and abstract. “Love is Everywhere (Beware),” the album’s extrospective lead single, is an upbeat, guitar-driven track that explores the dual joy and threat of a community focused on love. Whether our joy is measured by sparks felt when clutching old sweaters to our chests, by the number of tiny digital hearts earned from a shared photograph, by a guitar solo or a drumbeat or a piece of cotton on a stick in your ear, or by something even greater, Wilco wants to sincerely remind us to wear that feeling loud and proud. This is Ode to Joy: pick it up, hold it tight. ================= Typo catcher: Nel Cline, Nells Kline, Neils Cline, Nell Klein, Willco
