Back in 2018, I made the first version of The Sayre Jewelry Armoire, which is what you see in this video. I've made a few changes since filming this that I incorporate into commissioned pieces which include the following: reinforced jewelry cabinet joinery; a brass catch for the door; a second set of brass connector bolts through the cabinet into threaded inserts in the legs. This eliminated its tendency to want to rack when there were only two bolts. After I opened my Etsy store with my Fitzgerald Coffee Table, I also posted this armoire, and it was the first thing I sold online. Freight shipping was a trial by fire by all means, as I shipped it over three thousand miles from the San Francisco area to Boston. I made a sturdy crate lined with foam padding, and it made it there in one piece. Just over a year after the transaction, I received a wonderful message from the buyer's wife, for whom this piece was commissioned: "Hi Greg. You built an armoire for me this past year. I am wondering if you are still on etsy? I would love to add a review as I am grateful and amazed by your work every day. The armoire has a proud place near my dresser and brings me joy every time a walk past it. I would love to honor your work by submitting a review." That made me incredibly happy to hear, and is something I think about when I make furniture. I want it to look nice, but I also want it to be used.
