National Anthem of Portugal: A Portuguesa

(Turn on Youtube subtitles for English subtitles) "A Portuguesa" (The Portuguese) is the national anthem of Portugal. The song was composed by Alfredo Keil and written by Henrique Lopes de Mendonça during the resurgent nationalist movement ignited by the 1890 British Ultimatum to Portugal concerning its African colonies. Used as the marching song of the failed republican rebellion of January 1891, in Porto, it was adopted as the national anthem of the newborn Portuguese Republic in 1911, replacing "Hino da Carta" (Hymn of the Charter), the anthem of the deposed constitutional monarchy. FRANÇAIS : A Portuguesa (La Portugaise) est l'hymne national du Portugal depuis 1911. C'était à l'origine une chanson patriotique en réponse à l'ultimatum britannique de 1890 qui ordonnait au Portugal de retirer ses troupes basées en Afrique, principalement sur une bande s'étirant de l'Angola au Mozambique surnommée Carte rose. PORTUGUÊS: A Portuguesa, que hoje é um dos símbolos nacionais de Portugal (o seu hino nacional), nasceu como uma canção de cariz patriótico em resposta ao ultimato britânico que defendia o abandono das posições portuguesas em África no território compreendido entre as colónias de Moçambique e Angola, incluídos no denominado "Mapa cor-de-rosa". A letra foi escrita por Henrique Lopes de Mendonça, e a música foi composta por Alfredo Keil em 1890. A "Portuguesa" veio a transformar-se em hino no ano de 1911.
