CHEVY CAMARO flees 134 MPH in pouring rain - Arkansas State Police pursuit chase PIT / TVI attempts

Trooper's Report: (edited out some of the navigational verbiage) On June 13, 2023 at 10:02 a.m., I stopped a silver Chevrolet Camaro on U.S. Highway 67 at Miller County 140 for an unreadable paper tag and no lights on with windshield wipers. As I exited my vehicle, the silver Chevrolet Camaro fled the traffic stop. I then notified Troop G dispatch I was in pursuit of the vehicle, and we were southbound on U.S. Highway 67 toward Texarkana. As we were traveling towards Texarkana my speed reached 134 mph with a wet road and light traffic on the highway. I got up beside the vehicle on U.S. Highway 67 near East 24th St., the suspect vehicle slowed down and made a right turn onto East 24th St. We then traveled 65 mph until we slowed down and made a right turn onto Woodland Rd. As we got onto Jefferson Ave. I made contact with the rear of the vehicle. On Jefferson Ave., we reached speeds of 99 mph and the suspect vehicle passed a vehicle on the left on a double yellow with no turn signal. As we continued on Jefferson Ave. the suspect vehicle ran a traffic light that was red at Jefferson Avenue and East 18th St. The traffic light turned green shortly after the suspect vehicle went through it. We continued on Jefferson Avenue and past Texarkana Arkansas High School my speeds were 92 mph and the suspect vehicle was pulling away from me. I gained sight of the suspect vehicle again and saw it slow down and make a left turn without using a turn signal. On East 24th St. my speed reached 92 mph. The suspect vehicle then made a left on Franklin Drive without using a turn signal. The conditions were still raining with light traffic. As we were getting closer to State Highway 108 the suspect vehicle passed an 18- wheeler on a double yellow without using a turn signal. As we approached U.S. Highway 67 and State Highway 108 the suspect vehicle slowed down quickly. As I was slowing down I didn’t want to go past the suspect vehicle and allow him to get onto State Highway 108. I saw it as an opportunity to try to end the pursuit. I then attempted a TVI (Tactical Vehicle Intervention) and collided with the back rear quarter panel and around the back driver-side tire. Due to the suspect vehicle slowing down and hitting his brakes my bumper continued up toward the driver's door. The suspect vehicle then took back off and continued north on U.S. Highway 67. I continued the pursuit at speeds up to 102 mph. The suspect vehicle then slowed down and the hazard lights came on. I then observed the back driver side tire had gone flat. The suspect vehicle then pulled onto the right shoulder at U.S. Highway 67 and FedEx. The Suspect vehicle then attempted a U-turn to head back south. I then did a Tactical Vehicle Intervention and hit the suspect vehicle around the rear driver-side tire which caused the vehicle to spin and go backward into the southbound ditch. I then got out and gave the driver commands to show me his hands and he complied and stuck his hands out the driver's window. A Texarkana Arkansas Police Officer and I then made contact with the driver, who was later identified as Dustin Sockwell, and placed him under arrest. I asked Mr. Sockwell why he was running. Mr. Sockwell stated he was running because he didn’t want to get his car impounded again because he just got it out of the impound lot. Inside the vehicle was a small amount of marijuana. Mr. Sockwell was charged with (5-54-125) Fleeing- Felony and multiple misdemeanor charges. My Patrol Unit sustained damage during the pursuit. The damage was to the right front bumper, front bumper cap, and the oil cooler.
