Peripheral arterial and venous diseases are two types of peripheral vascular disease (PVD). PAD occurs when there is disease of the peripheral arteries, and it mainly affects the lower extremities. Therefore, there is an issue with blood flow going to the extremities and ischemia occurs. Peripheral venous disease occurs when there is disease of the peripheral veins, and it mainly affects the lower extremities. Therefore, there is an issue with blood flow leaving the extremities and going back to the heart.
