MATCH OF THE EIGHTIES - 1981-82 SEASON The second from a six-part series, first broadcast by the BBC in 1997, in which Danny Baker takes a retrospective look back at the previous decade's football. It's the end of an era in many ways at Anfield, as legendary former manager Bill Shankly dies, and Ray Clemence joins Spurs to be replaced by the eccentric Bruce Grobbelaar, who is blamed by many for Liverpool's indifferent league form. Last season's champions Aston Villa part company with Ron Saunders, but march towards a European Cup final, while promoted Swansea City prove to be the season's surprise package under the guidance of John Toshack.
