Dr. Valerie Francescutti MD, MSc, FRCS(C), FACS Associate Professor, General Surgery and Surgical Oncology McMaster University presents "Updates in Melanoma Surgery" live from Melanoma Network of Canada Hamilton Melanoma Information Session 2018. BIO Dr. Valerie Francescutti is a Surgical Oncologist at the Hamilton General Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Center, and member of the Division of General Surgery at McMaster University. She graduated with an Honours BSc from the University of Toronto, and from McMaster University Medical School. She trained in the General Surgery residency program, followed by a clinical fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. Concurrent with her fellowship, she completed a Master’s in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University, defending her thesis focused on knowledge translation in novel surgical procedures such as cytoreduction/hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Dr. Francescutti then worked as an Assistant Professor of Oncology and Surgery at Roswell Park and the University at Buffalo from 2012-2018. She was assistant program director for the Surgical Oncology fellowship from 2014-2016, and program director from 2016-2018. Her clinical focus at Roswell Park included melanoma, other cutaneous malignancies, soft tissue sarcoma, lower GI malignancies, appendiceal neoplasms and malignancies, and cytoreduction/HIPEC. In early 2018, Dr. Francescutti transitioned to her current role as Associate Professor of Surgery at McMaster University, with a similar clinical focus. Her research interests include outcomes in oncologic surgery, surgical pathway development, the use of survey methodology and qualitative research methodology to evaluate and improve the patient experience, and the use of knowledge translation methods for surgical oncology program development.
