dedicated to the fantastic XF vidder (among other noble pursuits ;) Boston/Roi, thankyou for passing this song along to me ♥ theres a couple different related themes in this, I'm hoping they are somewhat obvious. centers around Scully's role as a forensic pathologist. I've always found that interesting for a lot of reasons with respect to her personality and belief system. She is is definitely drawn to danger and things that frighten or challenge her ('candybar creepshow')- partly out of desire to prove she is strong enough and partly for other more complicated reasons. How she responds to Mulder in the pilot with utter fascination is a perfect example. Also as a woman, her views on victimization and what she does would be more complex, and she flips between her power role as a pathologist to identifying with those she works on as she becomes a frequent target in x-files land to all the creeps in the closet. theres some visual metaphor in this... it is not AU and I intended the last part to be a glimpse into Scully's fears- mental images--that her addiction to Mulder is going to get her killed, but she needs and loves him at the same time, so there is tension there. In this fanfic I read (and forgive me, I don't remember which) Scully is thinking how Mulder is mad and dangerous and she should stay away from him, but then she pauses and thinks that she is dangerous too...and I think thats right... Scully is never really a victim- she chooses things for herself whether bad or good. An interesting observation: the little girl Scully in her dream is wearing a blue and white dress with scissors all over it and spools of thread. I thought this was brilliant little commentary on how Scully sees herself (since its her memory) Scissors that cut things apart and thread that mends things together- that is so Scully. ;) "These are hard times These are hard times For dreamers And love-lost believers" -Bones by MSMR
