Based on multiple dictionaries: the word "apocalypse" can refer to any large scale disaster (earthquake/hurricane/war etc) that leads to a great change for life in the affected area. This is also how the word is used most often in journalism and day-to-day conversation. But even without this definition: the Chornobyl accident, for the people who it affected the most was the end of their world - all they had known, all they had loved. The same goes for all these games.
