Babar graced the occasion with his presence, arriving at the venue with his friends. He made his umpiring debut in February 2000, in an ODI clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Gujranwala. Prior to umpiring career, he featured in first-class cricket for over a decade. The skipper bagged the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy as well as the Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year in the ICC Awards. Last year, the flamboyant right-hander amassed 2598 runs in 44 matches at an average of 54.12 with eight centuries and 15 half-centuries across the three formats. Furthermore, he became the only player to breach the 2,000-run mark during the calendar year across formats. Babar also led the side to two major finals, which included the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup 2022. Adding to this, Pakistan won all three ODI series they played under the leadership of Babar, losing just one match out of nine.The apex cricket council termed Babar's 196 in the Karachi Test his most memorable performance of the year.
