Exploring the Forbidden Manchester Ship Canal

A hurried 18-mile round-trip walking tour of the Manchester Ship Canal from Runcorn to the remote Stanlow Island, not far from its final point at Eastham Locks. This stretch is extremely difficult to access on foot but features some unique views of the Mersey Estuary and the chemical plants and oil refineries of the area. Stanlow Island has its own curious history, and is virtually inaccessible to the public. Having a nosy around the island was my aim, but would that be possible or has nature finally reclaimed it? All credit for the song "Runcorn" to Andy Yates by the way. I saw it performed live years ago and ever since I can't hear the name of the town without hearing the song!
