It’s a born-again VW Kombi van for the electric age! | 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Walkround

All-electric ‘Kombi’ van and people-mover make Australian debut in Sydney ahead of 2024 local release 👉 Full Story: https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial... Volkswagen’s born-again Kombi might already be on sale in Europe, but the first examples of the all-new, all-electric VW ID. Buzz people-mover and ID. Buzz Cargo commercial van have only just touched down on Aussie shores. Revealed to media at a function in Sydney last week, Volkswagen’s first battery-powered van range is still more than 12 months away from local release in mid-2024 – after the VW ID.4 and ID.5 mid-size electric SUV twins (by the end of 2023) and the ID.3 electric hatch in the first half of 2024. The futuristic people-mover and delivery van are also yet to be priced for Australia, where they’ll hit a market in which their only direct rivals include the LDV MIFA 9 and, when it arrives next year, the Ford E-Transit. When the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo go on sale in Australia in 2024, both will come powered by the same single rear-mounted electric motor, producing 150kW of power and 320Nm of torque. Standard fitment of a 77kWh lithium-ion battery will deliver a driving range of 425km (WLTP) according to VW, however, it wouldn’t confirm whether the larger 111kWh battery – offering up to 600km of range would be offered Down Under. For those after a more athletic van, a hotter ID. Buzz GTX is also confirmed to be in the works, likely bringing more aggressive styling, more power and all-wheel drive. A seven-seat, long-wheelbase option will also arrive shortly after launch, combining two captain’s chairs in the first two rows and a three-seat bench for the third row. Bringing the iconic Kombi firmly into the future, the ID. Buzz sports big 21-inch wheels and Matrix LED lighting all round, along with familiar large VW logos at either end and a range of two-tone colour options including a Candy White top with contrasting Bay Leaf Green, Energetic Orange, Starlight Blue or Lemon Yellow body colours. Those colourful hues also extend to the cabin, where single- and two-tone colour schemes can be optioned. Volkswagen says materials used throughout the interior are recycled and animal-free, while the vehicle paint is ‘organically based’. Other features include a large 12-inch touch-screen with ‘Hello ID’ voice assistant and over-the-air (OTA) update compatibility, as well as ambient interior lighting, wireless phone charging and more. Measuring up at 4712mm long and 2212mm high, the electric vans are around the same size as the German car-maker’s T6.1 Transporter and the Buzz Cargo is equipped with a 3.9 cubic-metre cargo area.
