APC Smart-UPS 1500 New Batteries & Re-calibration - New Home Network Backup Power Supply, Yuasa NP18

In this video I test and repair an APC Smart UPS 1500 battery backup unit I purchased from Facebook marketplace as faulty. I already owned another of these units from some years ago with a functional battery pack. This allowed me to test the new unit worked before ordering some cells for it. I purchased this uninterruptible power supply unit because it was cheap and included the APC AP9630 Network Management add-in card that none of my other units have. I hope to use this to run my entire home network including the modems, WiFi access points, pfSense firewall, home server, game server, NAS devices and more to keep them online for even longer when the power goes out. The battery pack included with the new UPS is not an original APC model, but instead a third party replacement that had Yuasa cells. These are actually my go-to brand from previous good experiences with them. I'd never seen any acid leaks or major bulges occur on this brand until this video. I replaced the batteries with the same, brand new Yuasa NP18-12B (12V 17.2Ah) cells and rebuilt the battery pack. They cost a bit more than other brands to purchase initially, but the extra bit of investment pays off in the long run in my opinion as they seem to live longer. When you replace the batteries in these APC battery backup units you must also re-calibrate them with an appropriate load attached to ensure that the low battery alarm only goes off when it should. If you don't re-calibrate the unit then you will find the alarm keeps beeping constantly even when the batteries aren't actually running low!. I plan to make a video on the APC AP9630 network management card setup and re-configuring my network rack in the near future so keep an eye out for that.
