Peter Knight's Gigspanner: an Improvisation during soundcheck, Najac, France.

On the 8th of September 2013, Peter Knight's Gigspanner played a concert at the church of Saint Jean, in the French village of Najac. During the soundcheck, the band played an improvised piece of music, which arose from using the challenging acoustics of the church (a five second reverb) to their advantage. The musicians are Peter Knight on violin, Vincent Salzfaas on congas and djembe, and Roger Flack (unseen) on guitar. The organ sound was created by Roger, who plays a chord with the guitar volume off, and then uses the guitar's volume control to swell the chord. It is an electric guitar technique known as 'violining'. I recorded the last 9 minutes of the improv on my phone, which accounts for the compromised sound quality. However, it was such an amazing musical moment, I felt that it would be a shame to lose it forever.
