UK Generation 2 Generation is based upon the UK Sound System Reasoning Day: Continuities and Disruptions. That event was staged by Sound System Outernational (SSO) in association with the ERC Sonic Street Technologies (SST) research project in November last year. UK Generation 2 Generation is a compelling account of first-time-ever coming together of the UK sound system community. It highlights the key points from a unique day of sound system reasoning, capturing the vibes and excitement. The discussions revolve round an exchange of knowledge and ideas about how sound system culture and its practices are performed, preserved, appropriated, or expanded between generations. Sound System Outernational is an ongoing initiative of practitioners and researchers, in association with Goldsmiths, University of London, dedicated to recognizing, stimulating and supporting sound system culture worldwide. Since 2016 Sound System Outernational has created spaces for dance and discussion by organizing events and curating publications to bring together practitioners and researchers of sound system culture worldwide, fostering intergenerational conversations to strengthen the culture and to explore its technologies, aesthetics and politics. Sonic Street Technologies is an ERC-funded research project launched in 2021 examining the culture, diaspora and knowledge of subaltern and Global South uses of mobile sound technologies. UK sound systems featured in the film: Nzinga Soundz, Legs Eleven, Sisters in Dub, CAYA, Sista Culcha, Lady Banton (Seduction City), Jah Youth, Young Warrior, Indica Dubs, Creation Rebel, Lionpulse, Nimai Hi-Fi, Rebel Spirit Sound, Black Obsidian Sound System, Neville King, Black Magic Family, Moa Anbessa, Sir Jessus, Rebel Rock, Earth Rocker, Zion Inna Vision, King Earthquake, Gladdy Wax, Jah Massagan, Dennis Rootical (Iration Steppas), Tiny T (Freddie Cloudburst), Ras Terry Gad (Creation Rebel/Jah Trinity/CH1), Unit 137, Entebbe Sounds, The Great Wassie One and Mafia Black. The film was produced by Julian Henriques and Natalie Hyacinth, and edited by Eleni Parousi. Video was captured by by Oliver Cheetham, Stephen Folorunsho, Charlie Laing and Dagmar Tatarczyk.
