TRANSVULCANIA 2024 HIGHLIGHTS: Winners 73k Jonathan Albon & Ruth Croft at La Palma. Sumup by Mayayo The british athlete and the new zealandar were the best in the tough race of La Palma La Palma regained the Transvulcania Adidas Terrex for its people, and Jonathan Albon and Ruth Croft became the leaders of that sporting reconquest. Albon and Croft were the winners of the 2024 Ultra Marathon in a race marked by the toughness and beauty of its route from sea to sky and from sky to the finish line in Los Llanos de Aridane. The Faro de Fuencaliente once again served as the starting point for a large group of athletes who began their adventure at 6:00 a.m., heading towards a tough ascent over volcanic terrain towards the town of Los Canarios, where the locals awaited the passage of the runners. From there, the leading pack maintained its pace until Las Deseadas and then passed through the El Pilar Refuge, in a more comfortable area that provided a brief respite for the competitors who later faced terrain that inclined upwards again, where it was still unclear who could be the winners. The passage through El Roque de los Muchachos directed the athletes towards the technical, long, and tough descent towards the Puerto de Tazacorte, and from there, the final effort, again uphill towards Los Llanos de Aridane with the 'trap' of the Las Angustias ravine in between. At the finish line, Albon (7h.03:10) crossed first, followed by Dmitry Mytiaev (7h.05:16) and Tom Evans who entered together at de finish line (7h.05:17), and among the women, Ruth Croft (8h.02:49, RECORD) won, Ida Nilsson (8h.16:32) finished second, and Sunmaya Budha (8h.20:31) closed the podium.
