Having lived in the city for a long time, I never dared to imagine that at the foot of Mount Everest , there would be such an abundant New Year feast and such a grand New Year blessing ceremony. I was fortunate to visit Basong Village at an altitude of 5320 meters where I spent New Year's Eve with the rural people there, lighting fireworks together to ward off evil. On the first day of the New Year, the hosts cooked beef and lamb, inviting relatives and friends to their home, offering a sumptuous feast. Everyone held a small knife in one hand, and with the other hand, savored chunks of lamb heads and beef. I was deeply moved by this lavish food, raising my wine glass uncontrollably, drinking glass after glass of barley wine, singing and dancing with the local villagers. Another important New Year's event is when the entire village dresses up and goes to the temple to pray, erecting prayer flagpoles symbolizing new hopes under the sacred Mount Everest. Everyone sings and dances with joy to their heart's content. I believe that every visitor to Tibet should visit the rural villages, especially those at the foot of Mount Everest, to truly experience the most pristine and beautiful aspects of Tibet."
