IMM 5476e - Use of REPRESENTATIVE

In this video, we will cover IMM 5476e, also referred to as Use of Representative form. This form needs to be filled out by any individual who you have appointed to communicate with IRCC on your behalf. In fact, you need to use the same form if you already had one and now want to either cancel the appointment, or cancel and appoint a new one instead. To appoint a representative you will fill up section A, B, and D of the form, and to cancel you will fill section A, C, and D. In either case it is imperative to have the form signed manually by the applicant, and by spouse if you are applying under family sponsorship program. An unsigned IMM 5476 may result in RETURN of the entire package, and you would not want that to happen. It is a common misconception that only a paid agent can represent you. In fact, any one of the below listed individuals can be termed as your representative when you are applying for permanent residence, temporary visit, or sponsoring a family member. And you will have to fill IMM 5476 if that's the case. 1. A friend or a family member who is helping you with the application by providing guidance, 2. You are sponsoring a family member and will be handling the application on their behalf, 3. You hired a paid agent, or an immigration consultant, or a lawyer to represent you. When we did our family sponsorship application, wherein I (sponsor) sponsored my wife (principal applicant) I wanted to be able to communicate with IRCC and seek updates on our application progress. This could be possible only if I was appointed by my wife, who was the sole applicant on the file. Because by default IRCC will only correspond with the primary applicant on the file unless there's a representative appointed. So, my wife filled the form IMM 5476 and appointed me as her representative. We feel this was one of the best step we took while submitting her file as it became very easy for me to then call up IRCC help desk asking for updates on her permanent residence application.
