I discovered this board game in the book "Gamut of Games" by Sid Sackson. The author, a prolific game designer who might also be called "a classic", collected a bundle of his favorite games into this modest volume. It included Lines of Action which had just been invented back in 1969 when the book was first published. The book is still in print today. The game, Lines of Action, has come to be called "L.O.A." by its fans, and it's still quite popular among abstract strategy fans. The set-up is simple; the movement, capture method, and restrictions are clear; the objective is straightforward. Through a series of moves, the players try to "connect" all of their remaining pieces on the board into one contiguous group - all pieces adjacent to the rest either orthogonally or diagonally.
