The Capricornian - Overnight from Brisbane

The final overnight of diesel locomotive drawn operation of the north bound "Capricornian" train from Roma Street Station on 30 June 1989 to arrive in Rockhampton on 1 July, 1989 was headed by 2117. Just after daylight the "Capricornian" rounded a curve on the approach to the small community of Mount Larcom, some 75 kilometres south of the final destination of the train. In 1989, Mount Larcom still had a Station Master. The Capricornian operated six nights per week, Sunday through to Friday. With exception of Sunday night, freight loading was conveyed in QLXP wagons for intermediate regional centres as well as Rockhampton. Up to 13 QLXP wagons could be attached to the train providing the train did not exceed a maximum limit of 22 vehicles. A cab ride on 2117 between Midgee and Rockhampton is a feature of the clip.
