However, in the last decade it is becoming more popular to keep these fish in community tanks with plenty of other fish, and to many people's surprise... usually none of the bettas end up going on a rampage and leaving a tank full of vanquished victims. In fact, in most aquariums with good quality water conditions, proper filtration, food, and decore- which includes plants, dried leaves and botanicals, most male bettas can live happily in a community tank of various different fish species. As long as they have some space to mark as their own territory (usually in a corner of the tank. ) Not only can male bettas be kept with a community tank, but female bettas can live in what we call a sorority in the hobby. Which as the name implys- means that they can live happily in a tank with a group of up to half a dozen fellow female bettas without bjj:
