It is a potent, forward-deployed, and crisis response force that can be rapidly tailored to meet the specific needs of many different missions or theaters of operations. They are forward-deployed aboard amphibious assault ships (LHDs or LHA), which give them the flexibility, mobility, and firepower needed to conduct their missions.
