Skibadee & Shabba D with DJ Ash | Jungle Drum & Bass 1997 | Kool FM 94.5

Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. CHANNEL EXCLUSIVE!! Big up Matthew for this historic set. This set is dedicated to the loving memory of Skibadee (Alphonso Castro K. Bondzie), who sadly passed away (1 February 1975 – 27 February 2022). This set was recorded on Sat 15th Nov 1997, three weeks before Kool FM's 6th Birthday @Stratford Rex. By this point MC Skibadee had risen up to the ranks of the top flight with the likes of MC Shabba D. The Kool FM Hit Squad was expanding to a sizeable contingent which was paving the way for London's talent on the Jungle/Drum Bass scene. Jungle music was now on course for a musical transformation into a more industrial dark side elements of sounds and MCs had cemented their presence of becoming an integral part the music being played and featuring at the big events of that era. Raves and sets were now crammed with multiple MCs and the MC culture was flourishing but there was an overload of MCs, the competition to get to the top was high and so towards the late 90s many Jungle MCs began MCing to UK Garage because it allowed them to get noticed and gain recognition. In the months that followed MC Shockin B, MC Shabba D and MC Skibadee formed the formidable SASAS which initially started as the SAS, consisting of Shockin and Shabba on the legendary Weekend Rush FM 92.3 in the early 90s before they moved to Kool FM around 1996. The SASAS had a big following on Kool FM. In the years that followed Skibadee and Shabba did the MC Convention as part of Highly Blessed, running raves at The Rex (Straford). Skibadeee then went on to join The Uncontrolabelz (The UNCZ) with Funsta, Harry Shotta, DJ Ruff Stuff. This was succeeded by the SaSaSaS with DJ Macky G, DJ Phantasy, MC Stormin (RIP), MC Shabba, MC Skibadee, and, MC Harry Shotta. DJ Ash mustn't be mistaken with DJ Ash-A-Tack who was also on Kool FM. They are two separately known Jungle/Drum & Bass DJs based in London. DJ Ash was part of the old guard and had dabbled in music production releasing: DJ Vern & DJ Ash ‎– "Squeeze", and "Magnificent" (1995), but he was better known for DJing on the circuit. DJ Ash played at many big jams of that era: Kool Skool '96, Jungle Fever, Jungle Soundclash, Telepathy, Hysteria, Innovation, Living Dream and Jungle Mania. He also worked at Boogie Times Records, in Romford. The year of 1997 had many epic Drum & Bass releases, like: Ed Rush - Nico ‎– Technology, Scorpio ‎– Trouble / Division One, DJ Krust - Blaze Dis One, Lemon D - Change (Remix), Freestyles ‎– Attack / Feel, Mask– You Rang, Special K ‎– Knowledge / Pressure Roll, Shy FX ‎– Mad Apache / Strokes, Pascal & Phantasy ‎– Terradaktil / Breeze, Reasonable Force ‎– Jack The Ripper / Celcius, Distorted Minds ‎– Eventual, DJ Kane ‎– Definition / Yeah Yall, Formation Colours Series (DJ SS ‎– Bronze, Mental Power ‎– Gold, Rayner ‎– Silver), DJ Nut Nut ‎– Take Control (Ankh Mix), Ray Keith ‎– Chronic 11: 'Who The Hell Am I', Goldie feat.
