That way you will have a nice reveal around the door jamb. I my case I cut 45 degree miters with my Dewalt Chop Saw, but depending on the style of your casing, you might cut it straight or 0 degree on the saw. When measuring the RO (rough opening, stud to stud) for your door you will need 2 inches of room for the door jamb and shims. SO MAKE SURE you are buying a door 2 inches SMALLER in width from your door opening. Not all framing is plumb or level in every home, so do your best to keep the bubble in the lines of your level when installing a door. Does a door in your home “ghost” (open on its own)?
