Every year around late May or early June, the synchronous fireflies in Great Smoky Mountains National Park flash in unison, putting on a bucket-list-worthy display. To see this show, most people think you need to attend the official ticketed event (which requires winning an extremely difficult lottery). But that's not true! Since the fireflies flash for 2-3 weeks and the event is only 8 days, you can view the fireflies before or after the event. No lottery, no permit!
