Yau Mathematical Sciences Center, Tsinghua University

Mission: Pushing China's mathematics to the world Yau Mathematical Sciences Center (YMSC) is located within Tsinghua University, one of China’s most renowned universities and top 25 of the QS World University Rankings. In December 2009, Mathematical Sciences Center (MSC) of the Tsinghua University was officially established, with Professor Shing-Tung Yau, one of the most famous mathematical scientists in the world, being appointed as the Director of MSC. Professor Yau has made fundamental contributions to differential geometry, which have influenced a wide range of scientific disciplines, including astronomy and theoretical physics. At the end of 2014, to promote the development of mathematics in China, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China officially approved the establishment of YMSC affiliated to Tsinghua University. Led by Professor Yau, YMSC has been devoted to researches of international frontier subjects in mathematical disciplines, development of the new generation of leading mathematical talents, and promotion of international exchanges of academic thoughts and first-rate research achievements. By September 2018, YMSC has 116 faculty members, including 14 professors, 10 associate professors, 39 assistant professors, 42 post-doctoral fellows and 9 adjunct professors. Each year there are approximately 300 scientists of mathematical and related disciplines coming from all over the world to visit YMSC and exchange academic views and achievements. More than 100 lectures and seminars are offered by faculty and visitors each year, ranging from graduate level courses to frontier research topics. YMSC has established collaboration programs with 28 international research institutions all over the world. The research program at the YMSC spans a broad range in basic mathematics, applied mathematics (including computational mathematics) and related disciplines and engineering, including 5 fields: algebra and number theory, geometry and topology, analysis and partial differential equation, computational mathematics and applied mathematics, artificial intelligence and applied mathematics in big data; and 3 intersecting research directions : mathematics and physics, mathematics and engineering, mathematics and social sciences.
