The Imperial Guard is the first line of defence and offense against enemies of mankind in the grimdark universe, be they xenos, mutants, heretics or chaos. These are composed of mainly baseline human soldiers who are well trained in the arts of combat and using of advanced weaponry found in the Imperium. Their sizes are not standardized and depends greatly on the situational necessities of raising up a combat regiment. They also differ according to where they were raised, the cadian guard and the krieg for example have very different approaches to warfare and this in turn creates a rift in combat doctrines and fielding of soldiers in battle. The biggest regiment was recorded to be 750,000 strong while most of the others have their numbers in the thousands or rarely in the tens of thousands.
