An inside look at the world of Zambonis

If you’ve ever watched a hockey game, you’ve seen one in action. Doesn’t matter if it’s shinny at the local community centre, a figure skating competition or an NHL playoff game, they’ll have one circling the ice every so often. Its official name is an “ice resurfacer” but with all those un-sexy syllables most just know it as a Zamboni. I had always watched Zambonis while they worked and loved watching the shiny, wet trail they left behind freeze gradually into perfectly-frosted ice. Armed with the hockey-knowledge of an average 7-year-old, I decided to travel from small towns to NHL cities to learn more about these machines that hockey depends on.
