Secrets To The Perfect Ocean City Maryland Summer Vacation

While I was born in California, I grew up in Maryland where annual summer vacations to Ocean City are a right of passage.  My most vivid memories began in the summer of 86'. It was late May early June, I had just graduated Loyola high school which meant I had earned the right to celebrate Senior Week in Ocean City.  As I packed my yellow Volkswagen Karman Ghia convertible, the morning weather was warm and inviting like a cozy blanket fresh out of the dryer.  All loaded up with beach essentials like our surf boards and of course cases of beer, my mind was on one thing only and that was picking up my best buddies and hitting the road for the beach.  Our two and half hour trek would take us over the Bay Bridge, down Route 50, and onto the final stretch of Delmarva coast crossing over Assawoman Bay.  It was here where my buddies and I lowered our Wayfarers, took that first deep breath of salty OC air, and felt the weight of finishing four years of high school melt away with the hot summer sun on our faces. As we gazed upon the magnificent Ocean City skyline shimmering off in the distance like a desert mirage, we knew in no time we'd be hitting the surf, riding the waves, cheering for the hottest girls in the best body on the beach contests as we listened to DJ Batman spinning the greatest hits from the 80s and living out our beach fantasies all summer long. While this was a big part of the OC summer fun, we also enjoyed all the nostalgic stuff along the boardwalk like eating Maryland seafood at the Angler, laughing it up at the no-so-scary Trimper's Haunted House, playing Skee Ball at the Playhouse Video Arcade, and riding the Himalaya at Jolly Rogers as it blasted ACDC with every violent whip rotation.  Summers in Ocean City also meant noshing on all our favorite beach foods like Thrasher's French Fries, Fisher's popcorn, Dumser's Dairyland soft serve custards and pizza at Tony Russo's.  When night fell, we would shower, putting on our best OP and Sundek beach gear, down a few shotgun beers and douse ourselves in Draker Noir before heading out to cruise ocean highway looking for hot girls with my favorite boys of summer Johnny, Antonio, Steve and Frank.  With the top down, we blasted everything from Duran Duran and the Cure to Van Morrison and Don Henley as we pulled up to some of the greatest nightclubs to ever exist on the face of the earth like Scandals, The Playpen, Samanthas, Ocean Club, Nightshift and of course the legendary Secrets (the place deserves a video all its own).  As I look back fondly and reminise on these beautiful memories, I can't help but smile at how wonderful and carefree my youth was and what seemed like a simpler time of only endless summers and pure happiness. While those teenage memories will forever live on in my mind, I'm married now and creating new beautiful memories with my wife in Ocean City. In this video, we will bring you along with us and show you all our favorite things to do in OC in 2022. So, let's lather on some Banana Boat lotion, slip on our Sundek surf trunks, and head to the beach with a cooler full of beers to breath in the sweet salty air of Ocean City, Maryland.
